The Jaguars open their 2026 home schedule on Sunday, September 13, against the Cleveland Browns, and for once the matchup isn't the biggest story in the building. The building is. EverBank Stadium is playing this season mid-renovation at a capacity of 42,507, with the entire upper bowl offline. The Browns game is one of two home dates this month. The New England Patriots come to EverBank on Sunday, September 27, so if your weekend can't stretch to the opener, everything below applies two weeks later, minus the word "opener."

A 42,507-seat season

Here's the picture, from the team's own February 2026 stadium and ticketing update. EverBank is in the middle of the $1.4 billion "Stadium of the Future" renovation, a plan that runs across the 2025 through 2027 seasons. For 2026, the Jaguars play at home with 27,637 seats offline. The bulk of that, 22,005 seats, is the entire 400 Level upper bowl. The rest comes out of the 200 Level corners, select North End Zone rows, the lower South End Zone, and the lower-level Club. What remains is a capacity of 42,507, and that figure includes 1,260 standing-room-only tickets.

That's the context for the Lamping quote above. When a team president says demand will outstrip supply, he's describing the ticket market, but the same squeeze reaches everything around the game: restaurant tables, traffic, and yes, rooms. We won't guess at ticket prices or availability here, because we'd be guessing. What we'll say with confidence is the thing we can see from the front desk: game weekends tighten rooms on this side of the river too, and a reduced-capacity season concentrates the crowd rather than shrinking it.

The parking math, from our side of the river

Most posts about game-day parking are about the stadium's lots. This one isn't, for a simple reason: which lots are open, what they cost, and how they operate in a renovation season are questions the stadium answers, not a hotel twenty-five minutes away. Check the stadium's own site for current game-day parking and traffic information before you drive, and treat anything older than this season as expired.

What we can tell you about is the math on our end, because we set it.

Parking at the hotel is free. Not validated, not discounted. Free, in our own lot, for every night of your stay. Your car sits here at no cost from Friday check-in to Sunday morning, and the only downtown exposure it gets is the game itself.

The drive is about 25 minutes. EverBank is roughly 17 miles from us, and on a normal day the trip runs about 25 minutes. On a game-day Sunday it won't be a normal day, so budget real slack, especially for the last stretch near the stadium. Leaving Orange Park early beats leaving downtown early: you'd rather be inside the building with time to spare than watching brake lights on the way in.

Flying in for the game? Jacksonville International sits on the far north side of the city, call it 35 to 45 minutes from the hotel up I-295. Aim for a Saturday landing that leaves you an unhurried Sunday.

Where to stay, honestly

Search "hotels near EverBank Stadium Jacksonville" and you'll get the downtown cluster first, which is fair: those are the hotels near EverBank Stadium. If what you want is to walk out of a lobby and into the game-day crowd, downtown is the only way to get that, and on a home-opener weekend you'll pay for the privilege, on the room and usually on the parking too.

The Orange Park version of the weekend trades the walk for the math. Then on game-day Sunday itself, Ann Wilson plays the same stage. A Browns game and a Heart voice within the same 24 hours is not a sentence most cities get to write. It's local and regional talent rather than national headliners, and St. Augustine is 50 to 55 minutes from the hotel, so this is the pick for a group with a free Friday or Saturday and a taste for live music that costs nothing.
